Having recognised the need to create a comprehensive
collection of relevant printed and electronic material related to
refugee issues in former Yugoslavia since 1991, to preserve valuable
documentation and make it available for further research and use, the
Serbian Refugee Council has established its Documentation and Research Centre.
The key aim of the Documentation and Research Centre
is to enhance the operational and professional capacities of SRC member
organisations as well as other interested organisations and individuals
dealing with migration issues. The Centre aims to set a foundation for
expanding their knowledge on migrations by way of facilitating their
work, collaboration and synergy within communities providing assistance
to forced migrants.
Documentation and Research Centre currently focuses
on documenting and researching facts, experiences, knowledge and
practices related to migration issues both in Serbia and the South East
Europe. Information and best practices so collected (in the country and
abroad) will be offered as a relevant resource that can support the
work of all interested stakeholders.
Documentation and Research Centre intends to focus a
part of its work on conducting research projects related to refugee
issues and publishing their results.
We have so far established a cooperation with
several other organisations and educational institutions, among others
the Documentation Centre "Wars 1991-99", Victimology Society of Serbia,
National Library of Serbia, Faculty of Philosophy and others.
Documentation and Research Centre contains a library
with a large collection of materials related to refugee and migration
issues. Documents and publications in the library are available for use
to all interested individuals and organisations; much of the material
is also available in the electronic format.
The work of the Centre is based on our belief that
accurate recording, understanding and remembering of past experiences
and relevant gained knowledge are of utmost importance for building a
society of responsible citizens able to shape the future of Serbia and
the region in which peace and creativity would prevail. The Centre aims
to become a leading regional resource centre in its area of work and to
join a network of similar documentation and research centres in the
world focussing on migration issues.
