Declaration on establishing the Serbian Refugee Council
Six non-governmental organizations in Serbia, motivated by the years-long refugee and internal displacement crisis in the country, recognizing their own achievements hitherto towards creating a fairer society for refugees and displaced people, at their conference held in Fruska Gora from 28th to 30th May 2004 have adopted the following


D E C L A R A T I O N


On establishing the Serbian Refugee Council
As a common body of non-governmental organizations in Serbia, which shall continuously endeavour to improve the standards for protection of refugees, the displaced and other people affected by forced migrations, as well as work together with them towards finding durable and sustainable solutions to their displacement in keeping with international conventions and treaties on human rights.

As an alliance of equal independent organizations, the Serbian Refugee Council shall affirm the autonomy of its members and ensure conditions and possibilities for a continued development of their programmes and capacities, both individually and through common efforts.

In its work the Council shall rely on the activities and engagement of its members and other relevant actors in the community, as well as promote the role of the civil society organisations in resolving the problems of refugees and the displaced.
